RECSAM 50th Anniversary Coffee Table Book

108 Professor Dr. Ong Eng Tek Professor Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia I was with SEAMEO RECSAM from 1996 - 2001. One of the duties as the Head of Science Division includes the coordination of the SEAMEO Regular Courses. During my tenure at RECSAM, I served as a corresponding member of ICASE and coordinated the UNESCO workshops in 1999 and 2000 for the production of the Training of Trainers’ Manual on Scienti fi c and Technological Literacy (STL) for All. It was heartening to reminisce the successful bidding of a RM5.87 million project from the Malaysian Ministry of Education to train 1,320 teachers in 1998. Equally memorable was collaborative project with Shef fi eld Hallam University (UK), the British Council and Shell International to train the Malaysian Trainers on the “Active Teaching Learning Approaches in Science” (ATLAS). I ended my stint at SEAMEO RECSAM in 2001 when I was offered a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue my PhD in Science Education at University of Cambridge, UK. Dr. Aye Aye Myint Acting Rector Yangon University of Education (YUOE), Myanmar Working at SEAMEO RECSAM under the good leadership of Director Dr. Azian was the golden experience for me. Good memories of RECSAM include invaluable opportunities in conducting the researches, taking the role of facilitator especially for Action Research courses, doing evaluationof the regular andcustomizedcourses, acting as an organising member of regional / international collaborative programmes related to science and mathematics education such as SSYS and CoSMEd made my pedagogical experience and knowledge enriched. These experiences from RECSAM are very bene fi cial to my professional life in working as a Governing Board Member of SEAMEO CELLL and leading to implement regional and international collaborative works in my University as the Acting Rector. I wish to congratulate SEAMEO RECSAM for the tremendous progress it has made in its past fi ve decades and eventually celebrating its golden anniversary this year. May SEAMEO RECSAM be crowned with great success for many more decades to come! Dr. Cheah Ui Hock Former Staff (2004 to 2013) SEAMEO RECSAM My tenure at RECSAM was truly a rewarding experience. Under a progressive leadership aiming to position RECSAM as the centre of excellence for science and mathematics education, we embarked on various activities. Among others, we rebranded the Journal which is now fully peer reviewed and started the biennial International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education (CoSMEd). But our success goes beyond diligence and hard work; it was by working and learning together and having the passion for learning that we were able to achieve our goals. We were also standing on the shoulders of giants, on the work of those who had gone before us; both the staff of RECSAM as well as the local and international friends of RECSAM. My heartiest congratulation to RECSAM on her fi ftieth anniversary as she continues to shine as a beacon for educators in the region. RECSAM, as I see It
