24 the advancement of knowledge in science and mathematics education in secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam. This project took an initial step with the launching of two-day workshop for 33 teachers from Sultan Mohammed Jamadul Alam Secondary School (SMSMJA). RECSAMandother SEAMEOcentres have been involved in the SEAMEO Adopted Ban Prue Wai Primary School Project. The project aims to improve the quality of life of the society through direct and indirect assistance. KHURUSAPHA (Teacher’s Council) of Thailand has forged a cordial partnership with RECSAM for staff development programmes. This inter-agency cooperation has evolved successfully and was extended during this period. The linkages with UNESCO-APEID gave rise to the project on "Revision of the Training of Trainers Manual for Promoting Scienti fi c and Technological Literacy (STL) for All", while the tie-up with Academie de Sciences, France was activated with the hosting of "La main à la pâte" workshops for SEAMEO science educators in 2004. This period also witnessed the increase number of participation in seminars and workshops, through the hosting of attachment and study visit programmes for Bangladeshi, Nepalese and Sri Lankan educators as well as educators from Pakistan and Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, Indonesia. Apart from that, one key event towards expanding research and its practices was successfully organised at that time. The International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education (CoSMEd 2005) which was held from 6 - 8 December 2005 focuses on discussing, debating and fi nding solutions to the need of bridging theory and practice gap in education of Science and Mathematics. The Joint RECSAM-ICASE Regional Seminar on “TheWay Forward for Science and Technology Education: Implications for Policy Makers” in collaboration with SEAMEO Secretariat and UNESCO Jakarta was held from 16 to 19 February 2009. This Regional Seminar was aimed to bring policy makers and educators together to address issues to increase scienti fi c and technological literacy in the Southeast Asia region.
