v 50 Golden Years | 1967 - 2017 X Message I am truly delighted to ink in this commemorative book, marking the celebration of RECSAM’s 50 th Anniversary. It is a great pleasure for me to congratulate the Centre on this momentous occasion of its fi ve decades of existence in pursuing the development of science and mathematics education in the region and beyond. The economic and social divide in the member states of SEAMEO is due largely to cultural and educational factors. Since its establishment by the Ministers of Education of Southeast Asia, RECSAM has been seen as one of the leading Centres that has contributed to education development which can improve this form of disparity in the member countries. RECSAM has a lot experience and expertise and its long existence plays an important role in promoting and sharing the development of science and mathematics education in the region. I believe it has the capacity to develop further in the coming years. I have con fi dence that the common area of cooperation, which has developed over the decades, with sister centres and other academic organizations has greatly bene fi ted its area of specialty. RECSAM should continue its noble mission and strive to be a Centre that is revered upon and be a Centre which continues to have rich avenues for human resource development in education. I wish RECSAM well on this important day marking the Organization’s 50 th year celebration, and with it even greater accomplishments in the years to come. H.E.
