Paper Submission Procedure

We welcome proposals for Full Papers, Brief Papers, Classroom Practitioner Papers, Poster Presentations and Workshops based on the conference theme and tracks (Details of Workshop submission procedures are found in the Workshop link).

The paper submission process begins with the submission of an abstract (Abstract Template) (about 150 words) by the author for review. Abstracts will be reviewed by the Programme Committee on the basis of applicability to the conference theme and conference tracks, a broad appeal to conference participants and readability. Abstracts will either be accepted, accepted with suggestion for changes, or rejected and an email notification sent within two weeks upon receipt of abstract. Once the abstracts have been accepted, the authors will then submit their papers (Full Paper or Brief Paper or Classroom Practitioner Paper) for the peer review process.

Authors whose Full Paper, Brief Paper, Classroom Practitioner Paper or Poster (Abstract) has been accepted after the review process and have registered and paid for the conference will then be invited to do their presentation during the conference. They will also have their papers included in the conference proceedings CD and their abstracts in the Book of Abstracts. Based on peer reviewers’ recommendations Full Papers may be considered for publication in the book(s): “Empowering the Future Generation through Science/Mathematics Education” tentatively scheduled to be published by April 2014.

Full Paper
Full Papers are presented in parallel sessions. They should generally be between 8 – 10 pages in length. Full Papers will be reviewed by a panel of International Reviewers on the basis of the significance of the paper, appropriateness for the conference, quality of the research (conceptual, theoretical, design, analysis) and the quality of writing (organization, clarity and style). Please follow the guidelines provided in this Full Paper Template.

The outcome of the review process is that either the Full Paper is accepted for oral presentation only, accepted for oral presentation and inclusion into the Book of Abstracts and CD of Proceedings with revisions or accepted for oral presentation and inclusion into the Book of Abstracts and CD of Proceedings with no revisions, and additionally, whether it is recommended for inclusion in the publication of a book(s): “Empowering the Future Generation through Science/Mathematics Education” which is/are expected to be published in about April 2014 after another round of review process.

Please note that Authors must register and pay the conference fee by the deadline for the above to take effect.

Previews of the two books published based on selected papers presented during CoSMEd 2011 are provided for your reference (cost of Mathematics book: RM70, cost of Science book: RM80 excluding postage and handling)

Brief Paper
Brief Papers are presented in parallel sessions. They should generally be between 3 – 5 pages in length. Brief Papers are normally work in progress and will be reviewed by a panel of Reviewers on the basis of the significance of the paper, appropriateness for the conference, quality of the research (conceptual, theoretical, design, analysis) and the quality of writing (organization, clarity and style) but with less rigour. Please follow the guidelines provided in this Brief Paper Template.

The outcome of the review process is that either the Brief Paper is accepted for oral presentation only, accepted for oral presentation and inclusion into the Book of Abstracts and CD of Proceedings with revisions or accepted for oral presentation and inclusion into the Book of Abstracts and CD of Proceedings with no revisions.  Please note that Authors must register and pay the conference fee by the deadline for the above to take effect.

Brief Papers will not be considered for inclusion in the book(s) that is/are expected to be published in April 2014.

Poster Presentation
Depending on the number of Posters submitted, Poster Presentations are done during one or more lunch breaks. Poster presenters will be provided with a chair and poster board space of size 75cm (W) by 122cm (H) only. Other requests may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Virtual Presentation
A Virtual Presentation session will be added to the program seminar in order to provide opportunities for presenters who may not be able to attend CoSMEd in person. Papers presented virtually will be treated similarly to papers presented in person. Virtual presentation can save money for travelling, food and accommodation expenses.

Classroom Practitioner Session
To encourage more participation from classroom practitioners as presenters, a special session will be introduced for them to share their best practices/innovations. Best Practices/Innovation session presenters discuss and demonstrate teaching/learning strategies, techniques, issues and solutions which may or may not involve ICT. This is an opportunity to inform delegates about lessons learnt and future plans. You will need to submit a Classroom Practitioner Abstract followed by a Classroom Practitioner Brief Paper.  It will be reviewed by experienced practitioners and selected papers/posters may be published online after the conference.  Please follow the guidelines provided in this Classroom Practitioner Paper Template and ensure that deadlines are met.
