  Background

The first to suffer the effects of environmental disruptions such as climate change are people who live amid weak social infrastructures and depleted ecosystems.  Southeast Asian countries are vulnerable to climate change.  In fact the region faces a distinct pressure from rapidly growing populations and urbanisation and high vulnerability to the impacts of climate change because the region is agrarian in nature.  Seasonal pattern will be altered and the environment most likely to suffer from droughts, storms, flooding and sea level rise, and ultimately change the climatic environmental landscape.  All of these will compromise the ecosystem, biodiversity, food security and health.  These in turn places the ecosystem, health and livelihoods at risk in the natural capital dependent community already struggling to provide and safeguard such key needs that might compromise the future generation if appropriate action is not taken accordingly.

An effective response demands that the capable and empowered local community through information and dissemination of important component of climate change prepare the next generation to cope with the adverse and harsh resultant effects of climate change.

Objectives

1. Develop awareness among school administrators, heads of community and the general public in various disciplines that climate change affects all aspects of life and,

2. Stimulate the interest of the participant to contribute in climate change issues (climate, weather, ecosystem and health) from their own local perspective.

Course Content

The course content will cover the analysis and understanding on the cause and effect of global warming and understanding the impact of climate change to climate, weather, ecosystem, biodiversity, food security and human health.
