Rationale

The Digital Storytelling Contest is a part of the soft launching of SEAMEO RECSAM Space Science and Technology Education Hub. The SEAMEO RECSAM’s Training and Research Division is the organising committee for this event. This contest is open for primary and secondary students in SEAMEO countries to showcase their talents in digital storytelling.

SEAMEO RECSAM is committed to providing an avenue to explore space science and technology for students and educators. This contest serves as a digital platform for the student's adventures in space science and technology. Space science and technology potentials in fulfilments of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are endless. The 17 SDGs is a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Participants can narrate how space science and technology archives these goals. Space technologies can be maximized, compensate and improve existing infrastructure. For instance, space-based services and technologies are crucial to precision farming, the development of smart cities, efficient transportation, optimizing road transportation routes, optimum infrastructure location, fuel-efficient flight path, and infrastructure monitoring. We aspire that the participants can adapt space science and technology to local or regional needs based on socioeconomic conditions and existing infrastructures.

At SEAMEO RECSAM, we hope to discover the hidden talents of students as creative storytellers using a digital format such as a camera and online screencast applications.

The SEAMEO RECSAM aims to strengthen regional and local collaboration on curriculum and learning standards, assessment, and professional development for science and mathematics education to enhance competitiveness in the era of globalisation.
