Bhavani Ramasamy obtained her master’s degree in the field of communication from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang and has been attached to SEAMEO RECSAM as a Programme Officer since 2010. During her first four years in Research and Development (R&D) Division, she had coordinated various national, regional and international events such as ‘International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education’, ‘1st Symposium on PISA’, ‘Workshop on Southeast Asian Regional Standards for Science and Mathematics Teachers (SEARS-ST/MT)’, ‘Southeast Asian Regional Assessment (SEARA) Meeting’, ‘Regional Consultative Meeting on SEAMEO Basic Education Standards (SEA-BES) and Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA-PLM)’ as well as many other seminars and workshops in line with SEAMEO’s mission.
She currently implements science and mathematics training programmes led by the Training Programme Division for educators from Southeast Asia, Colombo Plan and African countries in collaboration with Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia), Ministry of Education Malaysia, The Colombo Plan Secretariat Sri Lanka and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. She also serves as the Secretary for a regional congress ‘Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists’ organised by the Centre currently. Besides her professional contributions to the Centre, Bhavani had been also actively involved with a non-governmental organisation, Community AIDS Service Penang (CASP) on volunteerism basis since 2010. She had held various positions in CASP over the years and she is currently the Honourable Assistant Secretary of the organisation.
