Mr Lee Shok Mee 1Mr. Lee Shok Mee is a Science Education Consultant of the Training Programme Division in SEAMEO RECSAM since September 2014. Prior to this appointment, he served as a Science Education Specialist commencing from 2006. More than a decade previously, he was first seconded by Malaysian MoE to work in this Centre as a Training/Research Officer (Biology/Science) for 4 years. Before the second appointment in SEAMEO RECSAM, he worked as a Senior Programme Officer in Socio-Economic & Environmental Research Institute (SERI), Penang in the early 2000’s, and he was also designated as the Senior Programme Coordinator of Penang Educational Consultative Council, under the purview of the Penang State Government. Mr. Lee had been a school teacher and teacher educator for more than two decades. He has published more than 30 reference books, workbooks and textbooks in science and education, as well as some academic articles on science education.

In SEAMEO RECSAM, Mr. Lee had been a course supervisor for more than 25 Regular and Customised Courses for teachers from SEAMEO member countries, Colombo Plan and African countries. He had conducted more than 10 In-country Training Courses in several countries. He was engaged to facilitate various science education workshops, to participate and speak in various conferences, seminars, and symposia held locally and internationally. His current areas of interest in education include science pedagogy, environmental education, education for sustainability, STEM education, and lesson study.

Social Service

Organised video production competition among Penang secondary schools under the Programme for Promoting Science and Technology Education (PPST). The programme was funded by Penang State Government. The themes of the competition were:

  • PPST 2015: Instilling Scientific and Technological Literacy in Green Living for Enhancing Socio-economic and Environmental Sustainability of Penang
  • PPST 2014: Walk the Talk to Prevent Climate Change II
  • PPST 2013: Walk the Talk to Prevent Climate Change I
  • PPST 2012: Lighten the Ecological Footprint on Earth II
  • PPST 2011: Lighten the Ecological Footprint on Earth I
  • PPST 2010: Science & Technology Literacy and Sustainable Development Awareness

2. Organised and led RECSAM’s team participating in Penang International Science Fair 2013, held at Straits Quay Court and Convention Centre, Penang on 13-14 April 2013.

3. Organised environment camp for promoting science and technology education (PPST 2009) for 98 students and 5 teachers from three secondary schools. The camp was held at SEAMEO RECSAM in 2009.

4. Held the following posts in Malaysian Nature Society (MNS):

  • Chairman, Perak Branch (1985-1988)
  • Pioneer Chairman, Kedah Branch (1994-1996)
  • Chairman, Penang Branch (2000-2002)
  • MNS National Council Member(1992-1995)
