94 RECSAM International House The agreements for construction of RECSAM’s buildings signed in stages between the United States Government, SEAMEO and the Malaysian Government consisted of two Phases. Phase 1 consisted the development of two hostel blocks, a dining hall, of fi ce accomodation, six classrooms and staff quarters all completed in June 1972; Phase II was divided into Phase IIA and Phase IIB. Phase IIA focused on the development of another 60-single room hostel while Phase IIB consisted on the development of administrative / teaching block, the Information and Library Centre, laboratories, classrooms, workshops and housing units which was completed by 1977. The construction of the hostel buildings were completed and functuning by 1973. The name RECSAM Hostel was inaugurated to RECSAM International House 30 years later when all its facilites were upgraded and modernised. LEFT The International House in 1980s.
