RECSAM 50th Anniversary Coffee Table Book

122 Mr. Mohd Tahir Hj. Derani Staff (Administrative Division) SEAMEO RECSAM When there is a Will, there is a Way I started my career at SEAMEO RECSAM in August 1985 as a Junior Technician. I was promoted twice, as a Technician in 1995 and as a Technical Assistant in my current position. During my 32 years of service, I had worked under 9 different yet great and experienced Centre Directors, who are inspirational fi gures with their own specialties, knowledge and skills. During the tenure, I had the chance to work and develop myself professionally in the printing unit, transport, as well as ICT and Development Units. I was sent to attend fi eld trips, courses and seminars held at different venues including overseas. Those are my fond memories of RECSAM over the years. The Centre took care of the welfare of staff in hosting Family Day at luxury hotels within or outside of Penang, fi eld trips or staff exchange programme to SEAMEO Sister Centres. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate RECSAM on its 50 th birthday and also to all Centre Directors for their leadership roles that leads SEAMEO RECSAM towards success and excellence. Through ups and down, RECSAM has achieved its maturity. I also wish that SEAMEO RECSAM will continue to prosper as the centre of excellence in science and mathematics education for the sake of the nation’s development. Mr. Haji Zamani Tajudin Staff (Library) SEAMEO RECSAM Once an Librarian, Not Always be a Librarian Never did I know that I would be traveling to many countries for professional courses and that my role as a Librarian would be multitasking in my fi rst decade of employment. Working in this Centre since November 1992, has given me the opportunity of setting my foot on an airplane for the fi rst time ever when I was sent to Kuala Lumpur for a course. After two years, I was given the opportunity of travelling to Vancouver, Canada for a three- week library course at the University of British Columbia. Then, I attended an Information Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 1997 and at the end of the same year I was involved in a study visit to Paris and London. Then, in the following year I was in Hanoi, attending a cultural identity workshop sponsored by the France Embassy. Back home at the Centre, I was a Librarian, then at one time, an Information Specialist, a Regular Course Supervisor, a Lecturer and later back to my original post, a Librarian till today. It was a very colourful event for me to be working in RECSAM because I get the most of what I wanted to be. I felt great in working here with the staff whom I know for decades and with the coincidence of my retirement of next year I wish to express my hope that the Centre will continue to fl ourish ever.
