17 Looking Back 2 • The decade also witnessed the implementation of two important projects: The RECSAM-German Project, whereby the Federal Republic of Germany, through its Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) provided support for in-country workshops and seminars related to the improvisation of science and mathematics teaching aids and apparatus, and science laboratory management; and The SEAMEO Pilot Project for Integrated Community-Based Human Resource Development which was funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). • A seminar-colloquium series was launched, whereby visiting specialists and members of the Centre’s staff shared their experiences with one another and with participants on various topics relating to science, mathematics and technology education. • Large-scale research projects were conducted on “Computers in Education”, “Teachers as Decision Makers” and “Elementary Science Teaching Procedures” which were all funded by the Australian Government through its Australian International Development Assistance Bureau (AIDAB). • One indicator of success of RECSAM’s public information programmes was the large number of visitors who came to view the Centre’s facilities, resources and programmes. Thousands of students, teachers, lectures, education of fi cials and VIP’s visited RECSAM during that period. • The decade also saw a strong staf fi ng average of 26 professional staff. The Centre was able to enlist the services of long-term specialists from other countries with the support of the respective Government of Australia, Canada, Federal Republic of Germany, Japan and New Zealand. In addition, the Centre was also able to enlist the services of short- term specialists from other countries with the support of the Governments of Australia, the Federal Republic of Germany, Malaysia and Britain.
