40 July 1985 • Fourth Five Year Plan (July 1985 to June 1990) November 1985 • RECSAM-UNESCO workshop on micro- computers in science and mathematics teaching 1985 – 1986 • For the fi rst time, the Centre conducted Research-Based Diploma Courses for six months’ duration August 1986 • The Elementary Science Teaching Procedures Project, supported by the Government of Australia was mooted in November 1985 December 1987 • Completion of Computers in Education Project with funding support from the Australian Government 1987 – 1988 • Seven in-country workshops and seminars were held in Malaysia and the Philippines with funding support from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, through its Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) February 1988 • A tenancy agreement (1988 - 1989) was signed between Distant Education (DISTED) College (Penang’s very own fi rst private tertiary institution) and RECSAM as the academic sector of DISTED grew from the British Columbia Open University distance education programme to Australian matriculation and twinning arrangements with Australia’s Warrnambool Institute of Advanced Education (WIAE, now part of Deakin University, Australia since 1990 as the university’s Warrnambool Campus) 1988 – 1989 • There were as many as 29 in-country workshops and seminars held with funding support from the RECSAM-German Project. Countries involved were: Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand 1985 1986 1987 1988 December 1989 • Completion of SEAMEO Pilot Project for Integrated Community- Based Human Resource Development funded by CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) 1989
