92 Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) The Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) is a gathering of young scientists all over Southeast Asia and beyond as a venue for sharing and dissemination of information on their scienti fi c and mathematical research projects. SSYS is one of the Centre’s programmes planned to ful fi ll its mandate to promote and enhance science and mathematics education in the SEAMEO member countries. SSYS was fi rst initiated in 1997 and since then, it has been held once in every two years with a speci fi c theme. The fi rst SSYS in 1997 adopted the theme “Conserving the Environment through Youth Science Research”, followed by “Technology for Us” in 1999. RECSAM will soon organise the 11 th Regional Congress on SSYS from 26 February to 2 March 2018 with the theme “Youth Creativity for Harmonising Sustainable Development Goals”. The SSYS is envisioned as a worthy intellectual venture and an effective medium to promote lifelong scienti fi c and mathematical values, interests, skills, attitudes and motivation among the youth. It is hoped that through SSYS, there will be an increase in societal well-being through quality science and mathematics education interspersed with technology, environmental, economic and societal awareness.
