RECSAM 50th Anniversary Coffee Table Book
119 RECSAM, as I see It 10 Mr. Idris Bin Hussainsa Former Staff (1974 to 2006) SEAMEO RECSAM “Pak Yeh of SEAMEO RECSAM” Past 32 years, the Registrar of SEAMEO RECSAM smiled and said to me ; “Selamat datang ke SEAMEO RECSAM” . I was happy and nervous. I worked for a job that pay less than RM200.00 per month but I was happy and really appreciate to be able to join such a wonderful and significant institution, not only in Penang but in the entire Southeast Asia. It was indeed an honour for a Kampung Boy like me, to become part of RECSAM’s big family and interact with people from diverse background, race and culture. Even though, I was just a mere helper in different sections, I was everywhere to ensure that my beloved Centre remained in good condition and sparkling-clean. I’m proud and honoured to be “Pak Yeh of RECSAM”. I will always pray to Allah S.W.T that RECSAM will remain in Penang and I am proud to be a part of RECSAM. Mr. Lee Shok Mee Consultant (Science Education) SEAMEO RECSAM My fi rst close encounter with SEAMEO RECSAM was in 1981 when I attended one of its 3-month in-service courses. I became a member of RECSAM fraternity in 1989 when the Malaysian Ministry of Education seconded me here as a Training/Research Of fi cer (Biology/Science). After four years, I returned to home service. But then, I had never severed tie with RECSAM. Earlier, RECSAM appeared mysterious obscuring the Penang Teachers’ Education Institute, where I worked. Many Penangites were oblivious of the existence of this international institute that dedicates itself to the advancement of science and mathematics education. RECSAM believes in promoting CPD (Continuing Professional Development), and hence I, too, was given opportunities to participate and speak in various conferences, seminars, and symposia. The conducive learning and working environment here motivates me to publish not less than 50 text and reference books, as well as some academic papers. Thank you SEAMEO RECSAM, I grew and matured with you. SEAMEO RECSAM, march on and shoulder on your mandated mission! Mr. Marmon Abutas Pagunsan International Consultant (Education) UNESCO Regional Science Bureau for Asia Paci fi c and Cluster Of fi ce for Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines & Timor-Leste That was fi ve awesome years of my life well-spent in the beautiful Regional Centre for Science and Mathematics Education in the beautiful island of Penang! It is also in this Centre that I had the opportunity to share and be part of teachers and education of fi cials journey towards life changing science and mathematics education for sustainable future. It was so mesmerizing to witness the cultural presentations of participants during certi fi cate presentation in addition to the signi fi cant events celebrated along the course such as Wai Kru Ceremony and Losar Festival. It is indeed a privilege and honour to extend good wishes and congratulations to SEAMEO RECSAM family on its 50 th Anniversary. The Centre has done notable and exemplary contributions to the enhancement of science and mathematics education in Southeast Asia and beyond. My SEAMEO RECSAM, My Penang, My Second Home!
