Other activities included public viewing and science open forum with experts from Academy of Science Malaysia, UNESCO and Malaysian Nature Society shared current issues related to congress theme June 2004 • 'The Use of LCD Projectors for Teaching and Learning in Malaysian Schools: A research project' sponsored by EPSON, Malaysia • The Centre fi rst signed an agreement with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) to conduct training courses for Kenyan educators • UNESCO-funded research on ‘Girls’ interest and participation in science and mathematics: Cases in Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar' March 2005 • The Centre fi rst recipient of SEAMEO Service Award July 2005 • Eighth Five-Year Plan (July 2005 to June 2010) • The Overseas Professional Experience and Cultural Tour Programme in collaboration with University Western Sydney, Australia was fi rst started August 2005 – August 2008 • Secondary Science and Mathematics Teachers’ Project (SESEMAT) for Uganda secondary science and mathematics teachers October 2005 • Conference-Workshop on Cultural In fl uences on the Understanding of Scienti fi c Concepts: An Intelletual Exchange Project (IEP) funded by Japan Foundation December 2005 • The 1 st International Conference on Science and Mathematics Education (CoSMEd) was convened with subsequent refereed proceeding publication re fl ecting the conference theme “Bridging the Theory – Practice Gap in Science & Mathematics Education: The Challenge to Change” • Pre-conference SAW workshop funded by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) • The formation of two divisions: Training Programme as well as Research and Development Division March 2006 • The fi fth ‘Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists’ (SSYS) was held with the theme “Sustainable Development for a Better World”. Colloquium series were then revived and organised by R&D division for staff or external experts to share with public, the activities of which were initiated in the 1980s and 1990s July – October 2006 • RECSAM started the Diploma and Masters Programme with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia 2004 2005 2006 • The Post-Graduate Certi fi cate in Education in ICT programme leading to a Master of Education in IT, a twinned programme with Deakin University, Australia was fi rst conducted for a group of Indonesian participants from Bandung Distance Training Upgrading Centre, Indonesia 7 August – 1 September 2006 • Two customised courses on Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Eduation in Western, Eastern, Central and South Africa Association (SMASSE- WECSA) for Kenyan educators November 2006 • Learning Science and Mathematics (LSM) online journal was launched to replace Classroom Teacher
